Flatirons Community Church

Lafayette, CO

Flatirons Community Church's new facility in Lafayette, CO accomodates the rapid growth in the northwest Denver suburb of a large youthful congregation.

In keeping with its history of "non-churchy" aesthetics and to appeal to the "non-churched" demographic with whom it most closely relates, the new facility is an adaptive re-use of a vacant Walmart and Albertson's grocery store which combined encloses over 160,000 sq ft of new and remodeled space.

With a worship center that seats 4,000 the facility utilizes several multi-use and muti-themed "classroom pods" that are tailored to the age group intended.

The church desired that the re-designed building be a highly welcoming urban center for people from all backgrounds to come together and experience a "me-too" attitude; a place for people to "bump into Jesus" in the context of unapologetically loud rock concert worship music and highly relevant Bible teaching.

The auditorium is a high energy "black box" space for services, baptisms and concerts. An open sound and light control booth operates the state-of-the-art audio/visual system, and a recording and video control room holds equipment and monitors for the professional quality production team. A series of four inter-connecting catwalks extend across the auditorium seating area and stage. Located backstage are green rooms, a sound monitor board, production and storage space for stage compenents, and loading docks.
